The Wax Atelier takes up traditional techniques ranging from candle making to paper making to the production of textiles from natural wax.
WAX Atelier was founded in 2017 by the multidisciplinary designers Lola Lely and Yesenia Thibault-Picazo founded in London. The products are made in Poplar, East London by a team of trained craftsmen drawn from the local community.
Ecological and social impacts
Sustainability is at the core of Wax Atelier. Most of the materials are locally sourced, the production is done in small batches and using environmentally friendly processes.
When Wax Atelier was founded, the focus was on passing on knowledge. Creative workshops were offered. In 2020, for example, Lola and Yesenia formed with the support of the charity Participatory City Foundation a group of artists from Barking in a three month program.
The Wax Atelier currently has around 8 employees and is proud of the diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds of its team: a diverse mix of makers from the local community, experienced designers and young graduates.
